Jean-Michel Halfon
President and General Manager, Emerging Markets Business Unit

Jean-Michel Halfon is President and General Manager of the Emerging Markets Business Unit. He leads colleagues across more than 70 countries in Emerging Markets on a strategic platform that emphasizes driving incremental organic growth, pursuing strategic acquisitions and partnerships, and seeking game-changing opportunities-enabled by operational excellence, ethics and integrity, communication, and building talent and culture. Under his leadership, Pfizer Emerging Markets launched innovative ways of doing business adapted to the unique needs of markets in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and emerging markets in Asia and Europe. These ways include a hub-based model to sell key core brands, an award-winning network-based model to bring together communities of colleagues working on established products, expanding Pfizer's branded generics portfolio, accelerating clinical trials in Emerging Markets and working to develop more medicines, and exploring innovative partnerships (such as with the Clinton Foundation and Grameen Health) to increase access to Pfizer medicines and services.

Jean-Michel joined Pfizer in 1977 and has held various roles in manufacturing, market research and sales in France. In 1994, he reorganized Pfizer France across business units and joined Pfizer Europe to help define Pfizer's European strategy. Jean-Michel moved to Pfizer's New York Headquarters in 1998 to head a product global development team, and from 1999 to 2007 was Country Manager of Pfizer Canada. Prior to assuming his current role, he was Area President of Canada-Latin-America-Africa/Middle East Pharmaceutical Operations from January 2007 to December 2008.

Jean-Michel has served as chair of Rx&D, the Canadian research-based pharmaceutical association, as a member of the association's executive committee and board. He has also served as Chairman of the Canada PhRMA Committee and Vice Chair of the Latin America PhRMA Committee. Jean-Michel graduated from École Centrale Paris and holds an MBA from HEC-ISA in France.
